Spirit_Bris.gif (2202 bytes)

In calling for 1998 to be dedicated in a particular way to the Holy Spirit, Pope John Paul II said that: "The Church cannot prepare for the new millennium in any other way than in the by the Holy Split in the fullness of time can only through the Spirits' power now emerge from the memory of the Church."

1. Prayers and Reflections (64 pages)

Prepared by Peter Gagen, Denise Quinn and Fr Ormond Rush.

Reflections to deepen our appreciation of the Holy Spirit's action in our lives.  Some options for their user: personal meditation; group sharing; prayer accompaniment to Themes for Discussion; focus point for a season (eg Pentecost); prayerful reflections for those recently admitted to the Sacraments of the Church.

Topics include -

Prayers
Dadirri - "our greatest gift"
Fruits of the Spirit (9reflections)
Discernment of Spirits
Gifts of the Spirit
Mary and the Holy Spirit
Spirituality Today

2. Themes for Discussion (80 pages)

Edited by Peter Gagen. written by Tim Keating, Patricia Mullins, Denise Quinn, Fr Bill O'Shea, Bishop Michael Putney, Fr David Pascoe, Fr Ormond Rush.

The book has suggestions and prayers for participants and suggestions for a leader of a group.

The themes are in these two sections:

The Spirit in Scripture

The Spirit in the Old Testament
The Spirit in Luke - Acts
The Spirit in Paul
The Spirit in John

The Spirit Active in the Church and in the World

The Spirit in the Church
The Spirit in the Sacraments
The Spirit and Ecumenism
The Spirit in the World

The discussions are not tied to any particular season, nor to any particular sequence of scripture passages from the lectionary, so groups or individuals wishing to use them as the basis for study or discussion may do so whenever they choose.   Many groups accustomed to a Lenten or Easter program, will thus be able to use the texts at the time if they wish.

Published by Catholic Education, Archdiocese of Brisbane.   Available from Adult Education offices and bookshops.  Orders will be sent in January '98
