Season of HopeA PROGRAM FOR LENT AND PENTECOST 1998PUBLISHED BY THE JUBILEE COMMITTEE OF THE ARCHDIOCESE OF MELBOURNE IN PREPARATION FOR THE CELEBRATION OF THE GREAT JUBILEE, 2000. In his Encyclical, Tertio Millennio Adveniente, Pope John Paul II called for a renewal of faith so that the Church may celebrate the beginning of the third millennium with a deeper commitment to the Gospel. In the Pope's outline for this preparation, the year 1998 is dedicated to witnessing to the power of the Holy Spirit who inspires hope in the human soul. SEASONS OF HOPE is presented to assist you and your community during the Lenten journey of conversion of heart. Using the rich treasures of scripture which the Sundays of Lent provide, this program endeavours to heighten understanding of the power of God's word in our lives. The reflections for each week are written by authors of diverse backgrounds, each of whom brings a fresh approach to key issues of Christian faith. The format is suitable for individual and communal use. It would serve as an invaluable resource for Senior Secondary Faith Education, RCIA programs and the like. Its aim is to provide a springboard for action and outreach in the many faith communities which enrich the local church. This attractively presented and lavishly illustrated book features extracts from many sources, including scripture, the Pope's Encyclical and the Catechism of the Catholic Church. A prayer service is provided for each week as well as points for meditation and discussion. The reflections will be available in translation for the major language groups. The cost has been kept to a minimum to ensure the widest possible accessibility for parishes, schools and families.
