Practising for a Joyous Jubilee ...

Broken Bay Diocesan News, August 1998 - Issue #13

How is the Australian Church going to celebrate 2000 A.D. as a Year of Jubilee marking the birth of Christ when the publicity machines seem to belong to the Olympic Games?

The answer seems to be the hearts and minds of ourselves as the true believers - a people who can get together as a united family and pass on the joy of sharing good time and bad because Christ has show the way.  Mrs. Elaine Guy of North Narrabeen thought that this Madhatters picnic picture should have special appeal to Bishop David because he is a man of many hats.  The 100 Narrabeen parishioners who took part in the picnic would have no trouble in recognising that "A Jubilee is a time of rejoicing and thanksgiving for the graciousness of God".  But as the Australian Bishops Letter to All Australians points out the Year 2000 will also see the Church looking back over the last millennium to see where it may have failed in its fidelity to Jesus Christ and to his call.  parish groups are encouraged to study the full text of the Bishops letter in conjunction with the simplified version of the Papal Encyclical on the Coming of the Third Millennium.
