Broken Bay Diocesan News, May 1998 - Issue #10

Fr. Bill Stevens

The Diocesan Jubilee Committee invites you to join in the spirit of Jubilee.   Choose a theme relevant to you parish, then create a banner for your community to help them prepare for the the Great Jubilee in the year 2000.  This is an awareness-raising project rather than a competition.

The themes of Jubilee are Sabbath, Forgiveness, Freedom, Justice and Celebration.   Added to these are themes around Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit's presence in the community and God the Father.  Here are examples of how some of the themes may be interpreted:

CELEBRATION: Prepare a feast.  Eucharist re-membering.  Sing a new song.
.
FORGIVENESS:  Forgive everything we can.  God forgives through us.   Forgive one another.
.
FREEDOM TO:  Remember our traditions.  Create a new world.  Be at home on earth.  Make relationships right.
.
FREEDOM FROM:  Prejudice.  Suffering.  War.  Religious divisions.   What enslaves us.
.
LIBERTY:  Proclaim liberty through the land.
.
SABBATH:  A day of rest for the heart.  Time to stop and rest, to recreate the community.  Recreate forgiveness, freedom, justice.  Savour stillness.   Remember I am the Lord your God.
